We are a tangata Tiriti NGO specialising in providing therapeutic services for tamariki, rangatahi and whānau who have complex behavioural and/or mental health needs.

About the role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director, People & Capability to join our leadership team. This pivotal role leads the development of people and culture practices that make Kia Puāwai a truly great place to work.
You will work closely with the Chief Executive and leadership team, bringing strategic advice and practical leadership across all areas of People & Capability – including workforce development, organisational culture, employee relations, remuneration, leadership development, health and safety, and payroll services.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the development and implementation of Kia Puāwai’s People & Capability strategy aligned with organisational goals.
Provide expert advice to the Chief Executive and leadership team.
Drive initiatives that build capability, engagement, and wellbeing across the organisation.
Ensure compliance with employment and health & safety legislation, and lead the organisation’s Health, Safety & Wellbeing portfolio.
Oversee payroll, remuneration, HRIS systems, and annual performance processes.
Lead and mentor the People & Capability team.
Build strong stakeholder relationships and represent Kia Puāwai with integrity and in line with our values.
Desired Skills and Experience
About You | Mōu
This role is ideal for a seasoned HR leader who can bring expertise, innovation, and cultural competence to guide our organisation into the future.
To be considered for this role, you will be a proven leader with:
Deep knowledge of employment legislation, organisational development, and change management.
Experience handling complex employee relations and coaching leaders.
Strong skills in workforce planning, analytics, and people metrics.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and working effectively across both te ao Māori and te ao Tauiwi contexts.
A relevant degree (Human Resource Management, Employment Law, Business, or related discipline) and a full driver’s licence.
Membership of HRNZ and postgraduate qualifications are desirable.
